So, this book definitely contains effective strategies. However, I think this misses a big piece of the puzzle. The connotation of "difficult" is used throughout the book, where it may be more apt to say "different", "troubled", or "temporarily hampered". It does not take any perspective besides the neurotypical. It expects people to conform or get out. But, I think it would be more productive to talk about how to make systems and groups that work for people who are outside the norm due to giftedness, or other such challenges. And I think it'd be great for it to have acknowledged that, sometimes, the needs of the individual are not accounted for easily in the system. It did discuss the impact of valuing all kinds of people, and it touched on the potential that some "difficult" people can offer. But I think there are deeper wells to divine here.

For first time managers it might be a good read but not for experienced folks who are thinking there are some new tricks in this book.

This is my first book on leadership, so I didn't know what to expect from it. Furthermore, what I was looking for were actually practical examples of how to deal with difficult people, and not as much about leadership.The book had that, but the focus seemed to be more on "leading" then on "the unleadable".I however don't feel like punishing the book with a lower score because of the slight mismatch between the title and the content. It was a good book, I din't want to get pedantic about it.Just be careful about your expectations.Bonus! I received an extra chapter from "Talking to crazy" at the end. That book really seems like it's about handling difficult people, so I might check that out.I don't have too much to say about this book, even though I took maybe hundreds of notes (on kindle). It's all just reasonable good advice...stuff you'd probably find in a lot of places. I found the BS level to be quite low, so the author seems to really talk from experience, and not after imagining how straw-people work and drawing on flipcharts.It's a short read, I recommend it for people who chose to/ended up leading others, people who have bosses and want to understand what pressures their bosses face, and people who are easily annoyed by others :pAlso further recommendation on how to deal with difficult people or people who don't know how to express themselves: "How to argue: powerfully, persuasively, politely" (...or something like thst). That helps in ending arguments very fast and very constructively.

This books gives a really good layout on how to approach management, especially for new managers. Willett does go over how to deal with difficult people, but does not spend as much time as the title suggest. Managing difficult people is only a portion of a manager's job. This book gives a broader view of management and leadership.

It was a good book. It provides overall leadership advice and project management tips (lots of it). But if you are looking for specifics because you were attracted to the title you will be disappointed.

A very valuable book that serves as a terrific toolbox and roadmap for the top leadership skill of managing high performers, star talent, and difficult people. If you are a leader managing people, you will use this book often.

Alan says first you must choose to become an exceptional leader; then it will become fun and rewarding. Where do I begin? I aced the MAT on no sleep (I work the night shift) and I arrived a complete mess after getting stuck in traffic with mere seconds to spare. This book helped me more than I can convey, but I will try...To start, just ignore that this book is from 2002. It's super old. True. But this book is fantastic. The authors are actually hilarious... they take jab after jab at the makers of the MAT. I read this entirely, as they recommended, then systematically took the seven 100 question practice tests, one at a time. Spread them out over a week or two. Give yourself 50 minutes on each test. Ignore the advice about not doing the questions on the MAT that don't count; the makers changed it so you don't know which those are.Read this book. It will change how you understand analogies, and specifically, what the test maker wants. My scaled score was a 443, or in the 97th percentile. I'm telling you- this book helped me to know the tricks they use, and how to assess relationships between words in a way I had not previously considered.

This book was very helpful. I only took the test once and passed with flying colors (and I graduated from college about 20 years ago!). It gives very good strategies for taking multiple choice tests.

This book was very helpful. It was easy to read and to use. There were exercises and practice tests. The book was not overwhelming with to much information. It was straight-forward and to-the-point. Very well written.

It was a great help and provided tips for the test as well as study guidelines and materials. Overall, a great buy.

I bought this book in 8/05 (3rd edition) and all the errors indicated in the other reviews were fixed. I really think amazon.com should remove them. I scared me after I had bought it, and paid 20$ for it, that it would be riddled with mistakes.It was divided up really well and had great time management solutions. The MAT is 60 mins with 20 "test" questions that do not count, of course you do not know which those are. The guides on culture and geography helped me the most! DO not be scared to buy this guide, it was worth it...

A great guide. Gives you an idea of how the test's creators think, along with a strategy for identifying and solving different types of analogies.I used this guide along with the practice tests in Kaplan's an hour or so each day for a week preceding the exam and got a scaled score of 461 - 99th percentile in my field and overall. Highly recommend.

I found this book to be mostly on par with the level of understanding I currently have of the ketogenic diet. As such, it was beneficial to have read many things that I've come to the conclusion about. It was easy reading, however, and I am a bit more interested in a higher academic level of literature. Great book for beginners, though!Also, fire your editor. Grammatical mistakes everywhere, not that it matters.

I got the paperback and I'm here to tell you right now not to get it. It is a copy in black and white stuck with a cheap paperback print of a book cover where it even says in the top left-hand corner of the book that it is not to leave (at least on mine) the subcontinent of India. Just rent or buy an American hardback and skip this mess. It was cheaply packaged - wrapped in paper with tape wrapped around some of it - and arrived half-crushed. It's missing tables that come in really handy as a student, and I'm not sure that it really is all the 9th edition. Be very cautious!

Totally awesome had everything I need to cover the materials I was studying in class.

What can I say. It's a typical required book for Engineering Majors. It has some pretty cool examples in the beginning, but towards the end it's a little tedious and looses touch with real world applications.It also does not do a great job at explaining shear/moment diagrams. Some other books give great examples and charts about distributed loading. That area is touched upon heavily in the EIT, or FE, exams.

It cheap and thats why I bought it. For the price its great, but shipping is from India and will take a while. If you need it quick, dont waste your time. Has page numbers but no way to know what chapter your on. But for $20, it will work!

Note: this is the soft cover version. I noticed someone complaining that they didn't know so I thought I'd throw that in.That said, since it is the soft cover version, it does not come with the handy spreadsheet listing known moduli that are kinda needed to do the problems. On top of that, the book is in black and white. Now for the most part this doesn't change a thing, but there are several problems that are quite hard to read because of this.Upside is that it's significantly cheaper than the hardcover!

I hate taking this class but the book is amazing. The company that sells it is really good too.

It's just the same of the original book. Not color though but do the same job! Helped me a lot! Oh, forgot to say that is Hibbeler, so is always great!

Seems to be an accurate duplication of the much more expensive hardcover version. However, some important differences to note are: -The entire contents are black and white (a graph referring to a red line and a blue line is difficult to understand) -There aren't any reference formulas or moduli in the front or back cover of the book. (several homework problems require this information.)

I had never taken a psychology class or read a single psychology book before I picked up "On Second Thought". The book is very well written and easy for someone with no psychology background to understand. This is the first non-fiction book I've ever voluntarily read cover to cover. It was great to learn about the inner workings of my mind that causes me and everyone else to do what we do without even thinking about it. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what makes us tick but has little to no psychology background.

Great book to learn how you learn and how to change.

Wray Herbert may be one of the best at taking a complex subject matter and making it not only readable, but fascinating. With examples that are both entertaining and enlightening, the reader comes away understanding a great deal about how the unconscious mind actually works -- and the implications of that on work, life, love and happiness. Can't recommend enough.

this book changed my life. i already navigate a long and rocky course of self examination and this book is a worthy companion on what i hope to be a long long journey. i feel like it sort of makes me a cartographer of my own brain! like a beacon in the night dr. wray shows us all the recent research and makes amazing comparisons to point out what is ACTUALLY going on. for anyone has even wondered why they do some of the things they do...read this book. you will never regret it.

Fascinating read

While there is some interesting research cited in this book, it is presented in a way that is hard to engage with. It is quite pedestrian - this heuristic with the supporting research followed by that heuristic. While some of the information may influence me to 'think twice', this is not a book that I would place high on the list of references I value.I haven't wasted my time reading it - I haven't finished it yet, either, so maybe there'll be a surprise in store at the end. However, it is quite unusual for me to take this long to finish a book, which speaks to my disengagement with it.

There are a number of books out that discuss our cognitive blind spots, and the heuristics that we (apparently) use--sometimes at our peril--to make decisions.This one is the least nuanced, most bluntly reductionist, most under-argued, and least successful of the ones I have read. I'd recommend THE ART OF CHOOSING, THE INVISIBLE GORILLA, THE HIDDEN BRAIN, PREDICTABLY IRRATIONAL, or MISTAKES WERE MADE (BUT NOT BY ME) as much better explained, more carefully argued, and better written.

The contents of the book are OK but the writing is dry and scattering and boring. It lacks the flow offered by reading some other books like "Predictable irrational" etc.

I have read all 19 Joe Pickett novels and have recommended the series to a lot of people, but this is the last. The body count has just grown way too high and too gratuitous in such a violent world as ours has become. While I embrace poetic license, this is just more than I can tolerate.

“Wolf Pack” is C. J. Box at his absolute best. I thought the long-running series was in decline after “Vicious Circle” and “The Disappeared.” But this latest book represents a full turnaround. Most readers will finish this compelling novel in one or two sittings.Its plot is intricate, relentless, and up-date; the good guys are nuanced; and the villains come in various forms—some plain evil, others merely contemptible. No surprise then that there’s lots of violence in the story. But killing—whether of animals or people—always has consequences in Joe Pickett’s world.

C. J. Box never disappoints with his series. I have read all 19 books in the Joe Pickett series and always preorder the next one as soon as it becomes available, I hope there are many more to come. When you start reading this novel you can’t put it down, I just received it today and read the entire book. I would highly recommend this book to all, but especially to those who hunt and enjoy the great outdoors. Can’t wait for the next one to see how he tops this one. C.J. Box is one of my favorite authors.

My review of “Wolf Pack” came a little more slowly, and with more deliberation than I normally give. This is because I got the Audible edition at the same time I bought the Kindle edition.STAND-ALONE: It can be read as a stand-alone, but the greatest appreciation will come for devotees of the series.CLIFFHANGER. No. Although there surely will be more Pickett novels, this does not end with a cliffhanger.If I were to rate this only based on the Audible narration, I’d be hard-pressed to rate it four stars, as the writing comes across as just a bit too much of an info dump. However, when I read the Kindle version, the info dump is much more invisible, so I am rating it more highly.WRITING & EDITING: Professional. The flow is good, and the historical bits are interesting. Sometimes the inter-agency tension seems too drawn out, but, as someone who has witnessed just how antagonistic the various factions within the federal and state agencies can be, it had the feeling of authenticity.BLUSH FACTOR: The number of eff words is more than you’ll want to read with your prayer group, probably, but it is not excessive for most folks. Certainly not for me. I mention it only for those for whom it might annoy.No graphic sex, but some of the violence might disturb a few readers. I appreciated the realistic portrayal, though.BOTTOM LINEI enjoyed this murder mystery and consider it a fine Action-Adventure.

Much of the storyline was illogical, with inaccurate statistics that were used to justify FBI activities. The body count, and the level of mayhem made this book extremely distasteful.

I've read almost everything written by him, including all of this lengthy series, and he never disappoints (and I'm working on catching up on the couple of books I've missed after I finish this review). Wyoming happens to be one of my favorite states too so that adds a lot of appeal.This is book #19 in the Joe Pickett series about Game Warden Joe Pickett of the Wyoming Fish and Game Department. Joe has his job back (after losing it temporarily in book #18) with the help of former Wyoming Governor Rulon acting as his attorney. And actually he gained some great benefits during the process.In this tale, Joe ends up working with a female game warden from the next District over trying to track down an illegal drone operator who is harming wildlife. They get help from his falconer best friend Nate Romanowski.Added into the mix are the FBI, the DOJ and some dangerous out-of-towners.If you've enjoyed Box's other books, you'll surely love this one. Box is a consistently fine author and I highly recommend this latest book.I'm off now to read SHOTS FIRED, a collection of ten short stories based in Joe Pickett's world, that I somehow missed before this.

Dang now have to wait patiently until August when J C Box's next book arrives. Just saying. Enjoyed this book though I have a tendency to see ahead sometimes too far. My bad I've been dong this since my middle school years wehn I discovered Mysteries and read everyone pretty much worth reading in Townsends Broadwater county MT library in the 60's. Much more picky these days. Box and Craig Johnson are two of my favorites along with a number of others. Husband also enjoys. We buy hard copies if at all posible we have an e-reader which is nicer for travel than paperbacks but nothing beats a good solid hardbound book. And oh yes....the review of the story. YOu don't want me to spoil it do you? Yes body count is up like one unhappy person. If they are feeling jaded with todays world of ugly and evil things happening to good people then of course the question comes to mind WHY on earth are they reading MURDER mysteries at all? I think Box has become a lot more skilled over the years writing. And I also think this book is one of his best. Sorry to say so long to a past character or two as they fell into the fatal category. Again can't say who because YOU would be sad and yes I had tobite my tongue not to share anything with my husband. He often reads my saved up books before I do. This was spring fever or winter blues knee jerk had to read it the moment it arrived. Now I wish I'd saved it. Life is good...probably you'll enjoy if you are a Joe Picket fan this being his 19th installment.

I came across Peter Brandt via Twitter feed . His Wise and sage advice instantly attracted me. One of the first traits of a successful trader is being modest in his capabilities in predicting the market. Every serious and successful trader will testify to this truth. If you hear someone who is talking other wise, either he is not truthful or the big draw down is ahead of him.WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS BOOK:Everyone who reads the book is not going to find it useful. You got to be a trader who makes your decisions based on charts and chart patterns to find this book useful. If you are a buy and hold Buffett style trader, you will still find this book useful to a limited extend in determining a good entry point. Also if you are a young trader, please understand that there are lots of eyes and computers looking at the same chart and has made the efficacy of charts like head and shoulder less reliable than in the past, and is being mentioned in this book as well. If you are a swing trader, day trader or an options trader, you will only find the book useful to the trading advice and opinions suggested by the author ( and less of those H&S patterns which has to be readjusted to lesser time frame)WHAT THIS BOOK IS ABOUT :The book is a printed trade journal about one man's trade with no ideas of what the outcome will be . Even if you find the repeating charts boring after a while, make sure to read and assimilate the first pages of every chapter. He is employing Data scientists, Research programmers, tons of back testing reports etc never even imaginable for a common man and giving away everything for free. His tradable and actionable content crushes CNBC. ( Nope, I am not paid by Tastytrade). He is proving to the world `option's is not reckless. While at tastytrade never miss their segments like Market Measures, Option Jive etc.The quality of research you get is unbelievable !SUMMARY:A very good book, worth reading.Even if you do not read the book, become his twitter follower. You will not regret it.

It’s a rare opportunity to get an inside look at the trading process of a legend. But that’s exactly what Peter L. Brandt (PLB) provides with his book Diary of a Professional Commodity Trader: Lessons from 21 Weeks of Real Trading.The title is self-explanatory. PLB takes you with him as he trades over a 21 week period of time. You see every trade, every profit, and every loss. The book is a front row seat to the thought process of a master who’s averaged over 40% compounded returns throughout his 40 year trading career. Most famous traders you hear about have a few good years and then blow out. They’re only known for their “big calls” and CNBC appearances. But PLB has been consistently making huge profits for four decades, through every market environment imaginable. This type of longevity is extremely uncommon.Most of us have read the Market Wizards series. The interviews are fantastic and packed with tons of useful knowledge. But in the end they are just interviews. Imagine actually being able to sit with one of the Wizards as they trade themselves. PLB provides that experience.Throughout the book you’ll see PLB give it to you straight. There’s no sensationalism. No promise of ridiculous returns. No bulls***. It’s REAL trading. You see exactly what a professional goes through, from emotional and psychological management all the way to actual trade management.There’s a ridiculous amount of useful information packed in this book, but a few key lessons stand out to our team at Macro Ops.One is PLB’s focus on trade management over every other aspect of his strategy. This flies directly in the face of what most investors believe successful trading consists of. A majority think it’s all about trade identification. That’s why you’ll see them jump from indicator to indicator, looking for some holy grail that’ll find them non-stop winners.This is not the way a professional operates. As PLB explains early on:“I will explore all of the trading components I believe are necessary for consistent success later in this book, but trade identification is the least important of all. In my opinion, learning the importance of managing losing trades is the single most important trading component.”“Consistently profitable commodity trading is not about discovering some magic way to find profitable trades.”PLB understands that identifying a trade is only 10% of the process. The other 90% is managing the trade once you’re in it. And when it comes to management, PLB knows that the name of the game is risk control. PLB again:“Consistently successful trading is founded on solid risk management.”The ability to keep your losses small will bring you success in the long-run. Avoiding that one big mistake that’ll permanently take you out of the market is key. As the old saying goes, the best offense is a great defense.PLB continually displays this reality throughout his book, especially when considering his number of winning trades versus losing trades. PLB’s long-term success rate for individual trades is only around 30%. That means that 70% of his trades wind up losers. So how is he still so profitable year after year? Strict risk management. The losses he takes are very small. His few winners more than make up for all of them.With a strategy like this, where a majority of your trades are losers, a focus on process is of utmost importance. As PLB explains:“Successful trading is the process of doing certain things over and over again with discipline and patience.”“It is possible to be profitable over time even though the majority of trading events will be losers. “Process” will trump the results of any given trade or series of trades.”It’s not easy psychologically to have 70% of your trades fail. Most traders wouldn’t be able to handle it. But PLB can because he’s so focused on process. He can have 8 losers in a row and still follow his plan. He knows that it’s not the next trade, or the next 10 trades, but the entire cycle that needs to play through. His hand is not only steadied by years of experience, but also by a true understanding of his own strategy.For example, PLB knows the exact average number of trades he should take each year. Not only that, but he also knows how many of each type of trade he should be taking. The number of major pattern trades. The number of minor pattern trades. He understands how each portion should play out within his broader strategy.In total he’ll experience about 235 trading events in a year. Only 75 (32%) will be profitable and just 20 of those 75 will make his bottom line. By bottom line he means the trades that are mainly responsible for his profits that year. Most of his winning trades will only serve to cancel out the losers. But 20 of them will be big winners that’ll significantly move his P&L.Understanding his strategy down to the number and types of trades gives PLB the ability to continually execute through any market environment. Strategies work in cycles, just like the market. They go through periods of major gains while also experiencing times of drawdown. The trick is to keep executing through both periods to complete the full cycle. If the strategy is sound, the net result should be positive, or in PLB’s case, extremely positive.PLB’s thorough comprehension of his strategy gives him the confidence to know when it’s working and when it’s not. As he explains:“I am constantly studying and analyzing my trading performance for two major reasons: to determine if my trading plan is in sync with the markets and to determine if I am in sync with my trading plan.”This introspection allows him to make the right decisions throughout each cycle. It also comes in handy when evolving his strategy over time. Many traders tend to switch their strategy too often, basing it off the last few trades. PLB on the other hand is very careful to make changes because he realizes the folly of over-optimizing to one environment or another.But even though he’s very cautious when it comes to switching things up, his careful study and analysis helps him make a change when it really counts. For example, price breakouts are not as reliable now as they were a few decades ago. PLB has been able to adapt his strategy accordingly. But you’ll never see him make the mistake of adjusting his strategy based off some temporary drawdown. That’s the advantage he’s earned from developing a full-cycle mentality in regards to his strategy.The other interesting thing about PLB is that he’s a pure chartist. He relies solely on price and nothing else, and with price alone he’s been able to achieve his superior trading record.PLB has a deep understanding of what price actually is and the proper way to use it. He explains that there’s nothing magical about chart patterns. They don’t predict the future. At anytime, he says he really has no idea where price is going. Charts are just used to develop a process. To establish targets, define risk, and determine broad direction. Nothing more.This falls right in with what we believe at Macro Ops. Price is really just a way to simplify the extreme complexity that markets create. It takes infinite amounts of information and distills it into one simple reading. I've been trading a long time and I feel much more comfortable with stocks than with futures but Peter has done a masterful job of explaining timeless wisdom with much humility. The thing I love about value is the evaluation of whether any idea can come from this book that would earn back the cost. In this book, any of Peter's idea can and will make you a ton of money. That is, if you work hard. Peter loves his craft and you can just tell that he really has a great process and system, for him. He even has the wisdom to say that the system is for him and you must find what is most comfortable for you. Great job Mr. Brandt, you truly are a market wizard !!!

I have been trading for many years in stocks and options and recently decided to trade futures only lose more money in a month than I had in years. At this point, I closed my account and started reading books about futures trading. However, I still felt I wasn't getting actionable information until I ready this book which has been the best investment I have made in terms of time and money. The first month after I read this book and resumed trading futures, I recouped my previous losses and now sitting on positive p&l. To those just starting out in futures, remember to have enough guts and cash to bear the drawdowns. The absolute 1 thing that dramatically changed my trading style is that I now look at weekly charts first to decide on trend. Only then I start looking at shorter term charts. In my opinion, this book is a 5 star book - the only reason I gave 4 stars is because it is very difficult to read the tables and charts on a kindle.
