I didn't find this style or approach to learning language very useful. I thought that it was sometimes very difficult to understand what was being said with regards to how certain words are spelt. For example, the "Learn Italian" audio book tells you that "I like" is a word that sounds (to me) like it should be spelt and read like "BORRAY". I wanted to double check to see how this word was spelt... I couldn't quite understand whether it would be spelt with a "B" or a "V" so I Google Translated the phrase "I like" which presented me with "Mi Piace" in Italian. After some adjustment and searching, I found the Italian word "Vorrei", which means "I would like" as in a polite request. All in all this isn't the worst, but I definitely found it somewhat difficult because I prefer to know how words are spelt. I also kind of prefer the building block style of learning language that this author tries to declare as antiquated and not as useful as his "let's just start talking" method. I like learning how to say the alphabet, and then basic individual words, and then some simple sentences, and then conjugation, etc. This audio book will throw some words at you and then ask you to string them in to a sentence.
The only way to explain this would be how a child learns the language from a parent. I used Rosetta and I like it as well. So far this is better. I’m considering another language after this one.
I just started with the course and on chapter 2.I have tried a lot of other courses in attempt to learn Italian and this one is by far the best one.Paul Noble's explanations of how Italian works and his method of teaching are fantastic.I have remembered, with not much effort, everything from the first chapterI would recommend this course to everyone looking to learn the language.
My first impression was this will never work; this very British accent teaching me how to speak Italian; but he uses a native speaker to teach word pronunciation and he has a very calm approach to teaching his surprisingly brilliant method for learning the language. He also allows more time for the listener to remember words and format sentences in the exercises. I have used other methods and found the answer was given to me before I could work it out in my mind; consequently, I never felt sure if I actually knew the answer on my own. After downloading this book from my library three times I decided I needed to buy it. I am sure I will own the entire set soon.
