Reading "7 Craggie Hope Road" was a bittersweet experience - on one hand a great read about favorite characters, but on the other hand a sad farewell to those favorite characters, all apparently forever whether in "this" life or in our reading life. I, for one, am saddened that I will only see them all in beginning the series anew to relive the adventure. I truly thank Mr. Moody for a beautifully written series where most of the characters truly lived their faith and helped to strengthen my own.
Now that's better! After reading the other reviews, I had great hope that this would be an improvement on book 6, which seemed to emphasize the sermonizing over the plot. While The Old Man and the Tea is still my favorite of the Elmo Jenkins books, this seventh, and apparently last, entry in this series is a wonderful edition, and deserves all five stars here. Whether visiting with old friends, or making new, this is a wonderful and spiritual ride. Thanks to Mr. Moody for this wonderful series, and one I will re-read more than twice. Highly recommended!
I downloaded the first book in this series called Ordained because it was free. I really enjoyed it. it was funny it was fresh it was inspiring. But then that led to the second and the third and the fourth and finally I just finished the 7th. I've enjoyed each and every book very very much and would highly recommend anyone interested in some good Christian Fiction with a little bit of Comedy to read this series!
These books are like vanilla. Just comforting. It can take a bit to get through the "dangs" and "gobsmacks." It's kinda like Donna Reed married Andy Griffith of Mayberry. But then there it is, just when you're in nerdiness overload, a spiritual insight keenly and sweetly delivered. Finally, I miss Earline already.
I have become a big Elmo Jenkins fan since I've downloaded on my Kindle McMillian Moody's first novel. It has also renewed my faith. Some people I know liked it, but say it isn't spiritual enough. What? Methinks that we all are still human in His eyes and that we don't need to be that Sanhedrin about it. The journey of a young man from his first internship in a church, the ups downs, sideways (my emphasis), marriage, fatherhood and taking a teaching job, shows me what a life journey is all about.
These books contain fabulous writing, wonderful humor ( I found myself often reading a section to my husband) and some much needed spiritual counsel. I am sad this is the last book in the series! I have them all on my Kindle and will reread with plans to take some notes this time. What a great ending!!! Please everyone read this and better yet get this whole series on Elmo Jenkins. Thank you, McMillian!!!!!
An excellent series with an even better message! Characters that you fall in love with and others that drive you crazy, but you love them just the same. This is my third time (except for book seven, which I just completed) reading through this series and I have enjoyed the stories and the characters every time.
McMillan Moody never lets the reader finish a story without a huge smile on their face! I've read all of the Elmo books and have never been disappointed. Another great book from a master story teller... I'm looking forward to the Elmo's next adventure.
